Stickers and Therapy

It has been so long since I've posted that I can barely remember how to do this.  I  was interviewed recently for a story about design and white walls.  The writer was wonderful but had many questions about using white with boys, teen-agers, dogs, etc.  I sometimes feel like I need to explain to people that I did let my kids be kids and was very casual about my house.  I just found this picture in my son Ryan's room (he's now a sophmore in College).  The image from a photo album that he created said: "Our old playroom that Mom took over.".. I was trying to figure out when I did take it over, I think the boys were 8 and 10...Another thing added to the therapy list...  BUT, I did let them do the sticker wall and it took me weeks to take those buggers off.  The room is now a pantry with open shelves and the boys, I mean young men still tell me that they liked it better before..
A view into the sticker room....

Yay; Kelly's back!!

It's funny how our perception as kids is skewed. I had a Casper the Friendly Ghost doll with a pull string that made him talk. My recollection is that my mother ripped Casper out of my hands and sold him at a yard sale. My older brother responds "You were 16 years old; get over it!"

That photo is wonderful! Your son's pajamas almost camouflage him against the wall. I love the new room and I think the young men are about to get outvoted.

Like a collage wall: stick it in haste, repent at your leisure...

Children have such long memories - when my son left home my husband took his room for a studio the same day. Kid needs therapy.

Hi Kelly...cute story! At first I thought your son's head was another sticker (a very large one), he's so camouflaged...and adorable!
That being said, your brave and beautiful take-over is living proof that...'Mama does know best'!
Welcome back...hope your having a lovely Fall!

do i know you?

my boys say all kinds of crazy stuff to me re their childhood. i had a blast raising them and if they didn't like it...oh well.

you were a pretty good mom b/c i would have never allowed a sticker wall. i allowed a sticker dresser and like you, i'm the one that peeled them all off and i use that dresser now as my own. how it survived 3 boys i will never know.

anyway, i totally prefer the new view. duh.

So glad you are back!

Wondering if you could share your sources for things you find in your home sometime? Would love to try to replicate some of it. Thanks!

Hi Wendy,I'm an avid flea marketer and find lots of one of a kind items there. I live in Massachusetts and I love Winston flowers, They have amazing vessels and containers. I also love West Elm, great modern pieces that look good with any style( country, traditional, etc). I'm a huge fan of a store called Hudson in Wellesley and Boston. I love Pottery Barn Heathered Chenille Jute rugs...they are very affordable and extremel durable and add the most amazing texture to any space. Tell me what it is that interests you and I'll tell you where I got it...Hope this helps, kelly
