a. Snug Harbor Farm b.Layering

On Wednesday of this week I visited one of my favorite places, Snug Harbor Farm located in Kennebuck, Maine.  If you are fortunate enough to live in the New England area, this is a  must.  If you are visiting , you should add this spot to your list.  The farm is an absolute  feast for the eyes, with every available topiary, plant, vessell and sooooooo much more.  Tony's plants have been used for styling in magazines and books for years.  When you see these beauties, you can totally understand the interest.  Martha Stewart, Caroline Rhome, Bunny Williams  and Kelly McGuill ,are just a few of the faithful die hards that visit and purchase.
The shop is filled with the most amazing accessories, plants and containers.  207.967.2414

b. Layering
This simple technique that I often think of when dressing is so beautiful in interiors.  I've been a huge fan of layering with the likes of wood, marble remnants, and basically anything that looks interesting.  I have wooden planks in various sizes that I add to my table tops and counters to create  interest.  I love to then add a topiary or plant above to create a eye catching  detail.  Such a simple but really effective design tool.

I love all of those! I wish my thumb was partly green, but so far I have to stick to the fake stuff or it will soon be brown. Love the pictures though!

I sure wish I was anywhere near New England! Plants and flowers are my favorite things to decorate with along with anything else natural. I love your layering designs and the natural look of everything ~

Good to know about! I been looking for some nice topiaries and was thinking about going down to Haskell's in New Bedford but I'd rather go to Maine and hit some of the great antique shops along the way.

Looks like about a 2 hour ride from me here in MA, but perhaps well worth it?
I just visited Gerard's in Lincoln, MA, which was a feast for the eye as well (my blog post today).
Love to see well taken care of plants in combination with beautiful pots, decorations etc.
Don't have any topiaries as of now. Looks like you might have purchase one on your visit. I like how you add the plank under the plant for some visual interest.

Kelly- Guess where we were today??? Snug Harbor Farm!! I ADORE this place. Have several topiaries from here. We shopped up Rt.9, but didn't bring any treasures home! And speaking of marble remnants... found a fabulous marble table top that I was looking for for an iron table stand on the back porch in Wells, and don't you know it was an inch and a quarter too short... arrrghhh. Dear husband is trying hard to make it work.
Love, love, love Maine!

I love the idea of layering wood and marble "scraps" on existing surfaces...we have quite a few of these (due to an unfortunate circumstance), it would be such a great way to use them.

And I LOVE the *little* Dachshund statue in the garden shop...I have one (a real one) sleeping next to me as we speak!

Have a wonderful weekend!
